HABITARE 2012

The event this year, was great! In size and quality.
Habitare this year has truly surprised us with the best of what Finnish design has to offer in every sense. Interior, novelties, ecological solutions, art, antique, seminars... You name it!
It was marvelous to see all we have to offer, combined into a beautiful and very well planed and organized event!

I am definitely craving for the next already!

Last weekend I visited a special kind of head wear pop-up shop called O´himo. This Berlin based shop run by Mimosa Pale was invited to fill the design districts shop LIIKE in Yrjönkatu, Helsinki. There was mostly hats from Mimosa Pale but also a selection of  hats by Jukka Rusanen, Ida Palojärvi, IRIE:NE and EL.

I got a little head wear sparkle when I had a change to try these hats on and hear more about stories behind designs. I met my friend Linda Kurkio from IRIE:NE and Mimosa from Himo at the shop.

Linda studied Jewellery art and visual desing and later she also gratuated as a millinery. She likes to mix jewellery art to her beautiful and sophisticated hats. IRIE:NE is on going project wich includes head wear & accessories and also installations and visual beauty.

Linda and Mimosa met in Berlin when Linda went to do her internship to Mimosas Atelier Himo. Mimosa is a sculptor who got exited about hats through performance art. Her hats are something different. Sometimes one can´t say if they are hats or sculptures and that´s just great about them! She started to make Himo hats and now she has had her atelier 2,5 years. One more reason to visit Berlin for me is to see her atelier .

Marimekko debut at NYFW

Our legendary Finnish Marimekko debuted in New York Fashion Week.
I couldn´t find all the pictures from the show so I haven´t yet see the whole collection. But here is some pics that I wanted to show you guys.
I see history and future of Marimekko in this collection. My childhood on the 80´s : My favorite polka dot shirt and plastic pastel colored tablecloth from our kitchen transformed and dated to new forms, beautiful and fresh garments and accessories.
I haven´t follow Marimekko recently so much but I have to say that I was touched when I saw these pictures. Smiling models, bold prints and lot´s of color. I am so proud.
