Therese Sennerholt

It's been ages I've been (and will continue to be) dreaming over the work of Therese Sennerholt.
Swedish AD and Graphic Designer, she makes life more simple and days easier to go by with her playful and truthful quotes. Who doesn't just stop for a moment and have a inner laugh over so many of them... It's just genius!
I just wish they would be available here in Helsinki! But who knows... they might some day soon!

Bold and Beautiful!

Jean Charles de Castelbajac A/W 2012 - Paris Fashion Week.
Talking High Fashion,
Today I had to post this pictures of Jean Charles de Castelbajac from Paris Fashion Week 2012.
I love everything about it. The structure, the prints, the styling, the make up... I love all of it! As usual, Castelbajac comes in very bold with it's architectural shapes and fearless prints and colors while keeping it always very feminine and elegant.
For us here at the colder side of the Atlantic, the bits of Gothic inspiration comes very handy and effortless.
And those prints... Awww, those prints... just can't get enough of it! (Did someone else got a bit of a Marimekko feeling?! ) :D

Little studio

This is a sad post...

After a whole day of scrubbing my floors and cupboards, I had decided to gift myself a little something.
I had been long waiting for the chance to order something from this lovely online shop "Little studio" and today was going to be the day. When I went online I found out they have said good buy to business and that made me little sad... They had such great unique design, the kind that makes you happy effortlessly! I wish you'll be back with your lovely and fun little things!

"To describe Henrik Vibskov as merely a fashion designer would be a vast understatement. As a multifaceted artist, passionate musician, innovative stage designer, and head of his trendsetting eponymous fashion label he is at the vanguard of a new generation of creative multi-taskers. As is indicative of this new type of renaissance designer, Vibskov has succeeded in establishing a unique signature style that is recognizable across all of the diverse disciplines in which he works."

Text from Gestalten.com - I simply couldn't have said it better.

But yes, I got to listen to his speech on Helsinki Fashion Sumit/2012 and he was super... interesting and funny to say the least.

Shoes shoes shoes... What would be of us humans without them.... specially us ladies who often tend to have even a little shoe addiction!

I am myself, daughter of one of biggest "shoe junkie" I've ever met... so Yes... I am particularly familiar with the whole subject to say the least...  The woman, my mother, owns a library of over 150 pairs well kept and catalogued in boxes - Something, somewhere between a dream and a nightmare, believe me, specially if you want to borrow them!

But anyway, this is the time to talk about one of our favorite shoes in Finland, and their designer, of course.
We are talking about bright young Finnish designer Emmi Malmström! She is a "soon to be" graduated student from HAMK - Wetterhoff school in Finland and has, in the 3 school years already managed great accomplishments.

She has won The K.E.N.K.Ä 2010, national shoe design competition held by shoe company Andiamo (collection that she designed while her first year as a mother) and Andiamo has produced a whole collection called Andiamo by Emmi. She designed also a beautiful and playful pair of children's shoes for RAWR charity auction and is currently working on IRON HIGH project together with  Jesse Sipola
The designer seems to show a bit of a retro tendency on many of her works but still has managed to come up with designs which are impressively modern and fashion forward.

I guess It's no wonder her shoes have been featuring on many of Finland's most popular women magazines like Elle, Anna, Kotivinkki and Kauneus&Terveys. Another thing I happen to love about her is the way she names her shoes... it's so intimate and gives you the feeling of acquiring something truly special and unique. I have slipped my foot in a pair and must say they felt even better than they looked!

You can check all of her work in her on blog Emmi-Malmström.
*check also full interview with the designer here .

And A SUPER PLUS! You can find a few pairs from our POP-UP 30.6.2012. So don't think twice and come check out what this beauties look like in real life!

We would also be super pleased if you tell us witch is your favorite pair... ?!

Vintage... Retro... Antique, What's the difference after all?!

Here is Whole Lotta Art for you! All photos by illustrator Judit García-Talavera.

*Judit García-Talavera is an illustrator who's work is an amazing modern take on a Vintage-inspired design. Worth checking all about her!

Hello everyone!

After serious while considering what should be our first post, I just got little tired of thinking and decided to post about the subject that's been in the back of my head for a long while (probably not only mine).
"The difference between vintage, retro and antique"

I have actually, nearly 2 years ago, done some research on the subject, to help my little sister on her final thesis and found out that it can be quite a polemic inquiry. Some people can be very, particular, let's put it like that, about their opinions. During my research I just thought it was quite funny to see all people's reactions when you ask them about it. Some of them were very "strict" to say the least.
Like one of her teachers, when asked, went completely furious and all red cause we pointed out a 70's dress as a vintage. After that we had to listen to a 30min speech on decade qualification.
But here we come with a few ideas on the matter and obviously, not the absolute true, as opinions diverge quite much.

Antiques - Are to say, works of art, and according to the various customs laws, must have been made at least 100 years ago.  Not any later! An Antique, is an Antique!

Vintage - Here comes the biggest problems surrounding this matter. The most strict believers say a product should be at least 50 years old to go under the category of "Vintage".
But the most accepted age is, at the current moment, 20 years. So YES, we can all go home happy, pull on our beautiful 80's whatever and go around proudly calling it a Vintage. I just wonder why is it all this obsession with fitting a product under a certain category?!
But that's another question, or another post, haha.
Retro - Well, I guess we all know what's left under that category. Whatever isn't yet "Vintage" or whatever product designed at a current age but under a "Vintage inspiration" - A trendy behavior on design field for a long time now. But we like it, Yes!
